Here is our weekly roundup of recommended wines we tasted this week. Enjoy!
2016 Dry Creek Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County, California ($29)
DCV vineyards has delivered a winner with this 2016 vintage from the Hillside and Benchland vineyards. This is rock solid Cabernet Sauvignon—layers of chocolate, boysenberry, vanilla and sage greet the palate with enthusiasm. Full bodied with a lusty finish.
2016 Dry Creek Valley Vineyards Meritage Sonoma County, California ($28)
This is a solid effort with no distracting qualities—very juicy and likeable. Flavors of dusty ripe fruit, green olive, fresh crushed black pepper. Finishes soft with a hint of raspberry coulis. Pairs well with bold flavored grilled beef or lightly smoked fowl.
2015 Trinity Hill Syrah Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand ($30)
Syrah from New Zealand? Oh, hell yeah—this is exciting stuff. It has a huge nose of peppercorn and spice with flavors of oil cured olives and dark blueberry. Smooth, sultry and sexy, grab a bottle and hold on tight! It’s going to be a very pleasurable ride.
Macari Syrah North Fork of Long Island, New York ($45)
Lively with pepper and spice notes that dance in the glass. The finish is long and tantalizing, with mushroom and cherry notes. Wonderful!
